Diabetes is Rocket Science is the book I really want to write.  It will chronicle the story of our family as we learned to deal with our daughter's Type 1 Diabetes.  So far, no publisher has been interested -- but it is a story waiting to be told.  

For this reason, I decided to fashion my first series of blog posts out of draft book chapters and post them here.  Unfortunately, I cannot tell you to read and "enjoy" them as you might my science or science fiction books.  Rather, I can only ask that you read and understand that diabetes must be cured -- NOW!

What is Type 1 Diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic (lifelong) disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to properly control blood sugar levels.

Without enough insulin, glucose builds up in the bloodstream instead of going into the cells. The body is unable to use this glucose for energy and, if left untreated, will cause death.
